LISA HOLT & HARLAN REANO

Urban life, the MTV Generation and a millennium-long legacy of Santo Domingo and Cochiti Pueblo pottery. Bound together, they create the backdrop for two of the most exciting Native potters working today. Lisa Holt and Harlan Reano combine their talents for each piece of their innovative pottery. The vessels and figures are hand coil-built by Lisa. The elegant forms and dynamic figures then become a three-dimensional “canvas” for Harlan’s painted designs. The imagery ranges from reviving historic designs to stylized graffiti patterns.

Since their debut in 2001, they have continued to break new barriers with their work. They revived historic Santo Domingo designs in 2003 and by 2004 were creating more elaborate “twisted” figures. After only four years, they were considered “rising stars” among Native potters and winning major awards at Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum Market and Fair. Each year, they have continued to win additional awards and accolades for their pottery, in addition to being featured in several books and magazine articles on contemporary Pueblo pottery. Their innovations in design and form not only captivate collectors, but inspire other artists, attract museum attention and continuously expand the national and international audience in its appreciation and expectations of Pueblo pottery in the new millennium.
